Mickey and Minnie

Standard

Recently a friend of mine approached me because she was looking for a pair of handmade Mickey and Minnie Mouse hats for her god children. I looked around at some patterns but couldn’t find anything that I was absolutely crazy about and Ellie was very particular about what she wanted. Eventually I just decided to forgo the pattern and try to work something out on my own. Here’s the final product!

Pretty cute, huh? I am going to make some for my family to wear when we take my big boy to Disneyland for his 3rd birthday in January! Haha, we’re gonna be one of those families! Awesome 🙂

I just found this tutorial via ravelry.com and thought it was so neat! I can’t wait to try it!!

And I’m back!  I’m on spring break at school, and spent most of this week working on English assignments.  But I did promise some tutorials, and today I’m going to show you how to stencil your earflap hat.  Thank you to all those on Ravelry who have left me such nice comments on the hat!

So let’s get started:

You will need a piece of posterboard approx 20×30″.  A standard piece that costs a dollar at the local drugstore will do just fine.  Make sure you don’t get something too thick because you need something that’s a little flexible, and you don’t want to be cutting this thing till you’re 92.
You will also need and x-acto knife, utility knife, or box cutter, a pen or pencil to mark where to cut your squares as well as to draw the stencil, and a ruler or other straightedge.  These items…

Minions and Boot Cuffs… oh my!

Standard

So yesterday I made my little pal Dominic a “Despicable Me” inspired Minion hat and within the time span of 1 day I’ve already sold 2 more! Funny thing is that both hats are intended for an adult-sized head! How fun! So today I spent most of my day developing this guy into a grown up accessory and here is the end result:

My husband says I should make the black band another row thicker, but I’m torn on the idea. I think it might be just too much. Maybe I’ll try it out after I finish up the Christmas presents I’m working on.

Speaking of Christmas presents, I have decided this year that every female I know is getting boot cuffs! I just discovered them, they’re adorable, and they work up incredibly fast which for me is a HUGE plus since I am notorious for never completing lengthy projects. In fact I have an afghan on the back of my couch right now that is about 2/3 done and so it has sat for the past FOUR YEARS. So. Boot cuffs. Awesome! Here’s a picture of the pair I whipped up this morning:

These ones are for my step daughter Ashley. I can’t wait to give them to her, I know she’s going to love them! Now if I could just find the time to make a pair for myself I’d be one happy hooker 😉

Today’s Inspiration

Standard

Today was a good day! I babysat my friends three year old son Dominic who is a wee bit of a wild child. He is constantly on the go, changing from one naughty activity to another in the blink of an eye. It’s exhausting just watching him sometimes! One of the only ways you can get him to sit still for more than a minute (besides sleeping) is to put on the movie “Despicable Me”. He will sit and watch the entire thing. It’s miraculous really! So today after he’d been here for a couple hours I decided me and my boys all needed a break from Hurricane Dominic and into the blu-ray the movie went. It was in the first few minutes of the movie that I decided Dominic needed his very own Minion hat. I dug through my stash, found the colors I needed, and took advantage of the peace and quiet to make this:

It turned out soon cute! Dom absolutely loves it and that makes me even happier. I tried to get a picture of Dom wearing it but he’s so busy it’s close to impossible to get a good shot. This is the best I could do:

I’m working on writing out the pattern right now and I will post it just as soon as I do, along with the football beanies I originally said I’d post. So much creativity, so little time!

I heart hooking!

Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Christa and I have been crocheting for 14 years.

I learned from my mommy who learned from her mommy and so on down a long line of mommies and daughters. I started out making afghans but eventually got bored with them and decided to try my hand at other sorts of projects. I figured out very quick that I love making hats! Thankfully I have two absolutely adorable little boys to wear all the hats I am making 🙂

Andrew and Logan are the absolute loves of my life. I am constantly amazed every single day that these incredible little rugrats are mine. My husband Rob and I must have done something right somewhere along the lines because the Lord has truly blessed us! Oh, and Rob loves to wear the things I
make as well, see?

Haha, he’s a good sport 🙂 . Anyways, I started this blog as a way to connect with my fellow hookers, to share about life and the occasional original pattern. I’ll post my first pattern for football earflap beanies in the next couple of days. I’m so excited to do this! They are super cute and super easy and sure to impress! Until then, happy hooking!
